Spook is a 1 year old male… About 45 lb.
he’s come all the way from Whitehorse looking for a new home… he’s sweet and loving.. here are a few notes from the foster home on what we’ve learned about him so far:
We had a successful weekend with Spook and getting to know him. We took him hiking and to the beach. So far no negative reactions with any dogs, just pulls and whines when we pass to try to play, but no aggression lunging or growling. He does like to stalk/chase birds, we have not met our neighborhood cat yet, but my inclination would be no cats.
He will need someone active and willing to work with him on training as he is eager and pays attention to us, but really needs some consistency as his manners are not well developed. We have been working on his basics; sit and no jumping.
He seems to be doing okay in the crate for shorter periods of time we are trying to leave him a few hours a day to keep up with the crate training
He is a bit skittish with large objects, and people carrying things and odd noises. We noticed that he does have some anxiety in the car and in new situations, and that seems to come out by him wanting to sit on you, lots of panting and a little whining.
He especially likes the ball and is quite good at releasing it. He is not too interested in treats, getting a bit better, and no real interest in people food… He does beg some, but again we are working on this and usually he calms down and sits/lies beside you, he also does not actually want the food.
He would do best in a home who is active, willing to work on him you can tell he is puppy. I would say a dog savvy older children would be okay, he is super gentle when he jumps, but still jumps. No cats, small animals, maybe anther dog savvy dog. He would be okay crated for some time during the day as long as the humans then did activities with him. He gets bored/ anxious quite quick and we have found walking/running helps him burn that energy.
He is incredible gentle and sweet though.
