Winston

Introducing Winston, the most lovable dog you will ever meet!

Winston was born in 100 Mile, BC June 16, 2017 and will be 6 years old this month. He was bought as a puppy and has only had one home. His mother was a Staffordshire / Lab cross and his father a Huskey / Border Collie. He is an 80lb male and was fixed as a puppy. Don’t be fooled, his size won’t stop him from wanting to cuddle and sit on your lap. He loves nothing more than to snuggle and get pets or roll over for a belly rub. He has a sweet, playful personality, likes to chase and chew toys and loves to play in the water from a hose.

Winston is a longer haired dog that will need brushing and baths regularly, he doesn’t love this but is very tolerant. He can be a bit barky when someone new comes to the door or into his space but calms down quickly on command and is always happy to meet a new friend. He loves to sleep on a couch and will help himself to unsupervised snacks on his level. He has had a problem with allergies and is currently on a daily medication and eats hydrolyzed protein food, so far this is the best to keep him happy and healthy. He has always lived with his litter mate Daisy and does well with another dog for company but he would also do great as the only dog. Currently, he lives with cats but they have different zones and do not often mix. He has spent most of his life on a farm and doesn’t leave the property often. He is a playful boy who loves barrel rolling on a trampoline, in the snow or even onto the grass, he is at his happiest when he is getting attention, laying in the snow or eating. He has been living with babies and toddlers for the last three years and though he is safe to be around them and very tolerant, he can be growly and not interested in having small children around. He would be best suited to a home with children old enough to understand his boundaries and be an excellent job for a young person learning reasonability. He comes from a loving home that has made the difficult decision to put his needs first, we hope to find his forever home and he can have the life he deserves.

** This is a courtesy post so we have not met Winston but just assisting with finding a home. If interested please fill out an application form and we will send to the family

Broken Promises Rescue is a volunteer run, not-for-profit, animal rescue organization located in the lower Vancouver Island. We are a group of long time rescuers that have come together to focus on improving the lives of unwanted, neglected and orphaned animals on Vancouver Island (as well as remote communities and other areas of B.C. if our resources allow us to.) Currently we are seeing many pets overlooked in the shelter system because they have less than desirable qualities. They may have medical or behavioral issues or they may simply be the wrong color, age or breed. At Broken Promise Rescue we believe all animals deserve to experience a life without pain, loneliness or hunger and want them to know what it feels like to be loved and cherished, despite appearance, age or medical condition. We are also dedicated to public education and raising awareness to help end the ongoing abuse, neglect and suffering. Educating children and adults about the responsibilities of animal ownership will go a long way in influencing public opinion on proper animal care, and help mold a more compassionate future. No animal should suffer at the hands of ignorance.
