John Cena (JC)

This gorgeous boy is about 5 years old. Super sweet and loving. He was found pending for himself on the street. He is FIV positive. (Fiv it’s like HIV in humans.). They can live a long a normal life just have to keep them healthy and make sure they have a good immune system. He would do best at home on his own mostly because he can be a bit aggressive with other cats probably from defending himself outside on his own.

Here is what his foster family wrote about him..

March 2021 ~ It all started with a poster…

We have created a story with John Cena. We had no idea what we were in for day to day from the moment we offered to put up posters around our neighbourhood to try to help the groups of rescuers that wanted to give him some help. From the start we had no intention of having another fur baby join our family; but, from the very 1st time we saw him up close devouring the food we had put out for him on our back deck… we fell in love with him. He looked strong, underweight and very cautiously shy. With so much help, guidance & support from Broken Promises, you know how the story went.

When we found out from the vet he is FIV positive, we asked every question & did a ton of research. The fact his teeth were so decayed & most had to be pulled, plus he was also neutered at the vet’s… actually made our decision to try to give him his Forever Home with us a super easy decision. There really wasn’t a big, long conversation between my boys & I. We knew we wanted him from the 1st night we brought him in. He had also just been through a life altering transition physically & mentally because he had been living on his own for over 3 years & suddenly he found himself in a completely different life really.

Ethan has been MONUMENTAL in John’s positive changes, not just that we are here to shower him with love & provide necessities, but Ethan has taught him so many lessons like spraying and urinating in random spots in the house was a no-no. How to make him understand when he has done something he shouldn’t have and learn from it. Even just becoming the pet you can pick up and walk around with & cuddle for hours without being swiped at. Of course with all pets, you learn their temperaments too.

I hate that I’m writing this but we just recently had to make the painful decision to find him a new, loving, forever home which Broken Promises is helping us navigate/facilitate. With Sam getting older & JC’s natural, male, territorial disposition… it really is the one & ONLY REASON we came to this decision.

John has been with us for months & we’ve loved every moment of it, except that Sam just being inside with us triggers JC. Sam should be chilling, relaxing and enjoying getting older. He is terrified of JC & usually Sam isn’t afraid of anything. JC is just a naturally big kitty, muscle upon muscle and use to having to fight for food and territory. Unfortunately because we haven’t yet still been successful at making JC understand that Sam is no threat to him, we had to make this decision.

We only know what JC is like in our family dynamic. He & Hallie can be left alone in the same room but not the 2 male cats. It’s unfair to expect JC to stay in a separate room any time Sam is inside & play musical rooms when they both are. Although luckily Ethan has the patience and neverending love to spent a lot of time with JC in his room & JC hasn’t really wanted for anything… he should be able to have the run of his household, not be kept separated. Sam shouldn’t feel like he has to spend hours upon hours outside just to avoid knowing JC is inside.

I just wanted to post this because maybe you or someone you know would be an amazing fit for fostering or adopting JC. My opinion is if he were the only cat, he’d love it and he would love you so much…he may also be just fine as long as other cats aren’t male as he & Hallie are fine in the same room.

Broken Promises Rescue is a volunteer run, not-for-profit, animal rescue organization located in the lower Vancouver Island. We are a group of long time rescuers that have come together to focus on improving the lives of unwanted, neglected and orphaned animals on Vancouver Island (as well as remote communities and other areas of B.C. if our resources allow us to.) Currently we are seeing many pets overlooked in the shelter system because they have less than desirable qualities. They may have medical or behavioral issues or they may simply be the wrong color, age or breed. At Broken Promise Rescue we believe all animals deserve to experience a life without pain, loneliness or hunger and want them to know what it feels like to be loved and cherished, despite appearance, age or medical condition. We are also dedicated to public education and raising awareness to help end the ongoing abuse, neglect and suffering. Educating children and adults about the responsibilities of animal ownership will go a long way in influencing public opinion on proper animal care, and help mold a more compassionate future. No animal should suffer at the hands of ignorance.
