This is a courtesy post. We have never met the dogs and are just assisting finding them a home. if intersted fill out an application and we will send to the family. The dog are located in Lake Cowichan. Ideally a home for them all together but realize that is alot ..
Zuko – 4 years old born on April 7, 2022, male, intact. He is a mix of Great Pyrenees, Bernese mountain dog and Sarplaninac. He is a very kind and loving dog, who has a very good temperament and is good with children and cats. He is roughly 120-130 lbs. He loves to sit for a treat and loves to “Pyr paw” whenever possible. He is definitely a typical great pyrenees. He will bark at almost anything and sheds like no other. He will only let you brush him for a little bit at a time, but is very calm while doing so. Zuko has a very soft soul. If you get too loud he gets uncomfortable and will be less likely to listen. He gives some awesome cuddles, whether it be on the floor, on the couch or on the bed. He loves a good spooning. If Zuko could live outside he would be so happy. We unfortunately live in a town with many neighbors, so he isn’t allowed to live outside because he would bark too much and annoy my neighbors.
Mai – 4 years old born on May 7, 2022, female, not spayed. She is a mix of Border collie, Bernese mountain dog and st. Bernard. She is super friendly and will try to hug and kiss anyone she meets. Mai is a very smart dog that is very intune with the emotions happening around her. She gets very excited to play and loves to bark when she is having a good time. Mai had a litter of puppies in 2024 and she successfully gave birth to 6 puppies. She did a fantastic job at her motherly duties. Mai is roughly 80- 90 lbs. She is good with cats and children, but will chase any squirrel that enters her field of view. Mai loves a good belly rub and will desire cuddles, but only in her own weird little way. Whenever she is out in the backyard and wants to come back inside she will stand at the door and give just one bark, just to let you know she is ready to come inside. Mai loves to be around her people as much as possible.
Yue (you-eh) – 2 years old, born April 3 2024, female, not spayed. She is a mix of both Zuko and Mai, Great pyrenees, border collie, bernese mountain dog, sarplaninac and st. bernard. She is the sweetest girl ever. She has a cute little overbite and loves to give friendly smiles. She is very relaxed and laid back. She likes to think she is a lap dog who just wants to be close to you. She doesnt have much exposure to dogs other than Zuko and Mai but is very good with cats. She can be quite wary with other people and animals but is kind while doing so. She has never tried to harm anyone when feeling wary, just barks until you give her some direction.
All three dogs are very loyal. They have never tried to run away or leave our yard while unattended, We recently found a hole they dug close to the fence that they were able to get through, but they never left. Mai and Zuko unfortunately experienced some trauma when they were a year old. We had someone living with us and we were trying to ask them to leave. When the person refused to leave, things got heated and the dogs were left in our room while we tried to have this person go away. While this happened they heard us say “get out of here” a few times and now that is a bit of a trigger phrase for them. We have done our best in the years since to help them be less triggered by it, But there are still moments when they get a little panicked when they hear that phrase.
We are located in Lake Cowichan and hope, if possible, for them to stay together. Mai and Zuko have been with each other since Mai was 8 weeks old and Zuko 12 weeks. Yue is their pup. If it’s not possible, that is okay too. We really just want what’s best for them.
All three dogs have only had the recommended vaccinations when pups. None have had any health issues that required us to go to a vet.
My hope is that we can find them a home where they have work to do. Zuko is a natural protector, being a great pyr and all. Mai has some good herding instincts that i think would shine bright with the right place and training. Yue doesnt exhibit too many skills when it comes to either of her parents’ abilities. But I am sure she would flourish with the right training. She is quite intelligent.
